Vietnam parliament elects Vo Van Thuong as new president

 
While continuing its anti-corruption effort, the nation is replacing its top leadership. Vo Van Thuong, a 52-year-old member of the Communist Party of Vietnam`s Politburo, was chosen by the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to serve as the country`s new president from 2026 to 2029. In Hanoi, Vietnam, at the National Assembly`s extraordinary session, he took the oath of office as the country`s new president. The new President`s oath has been recognised by the parliament on behalf of NA Chairman Vng Hu.
 
Vo Van Thuong succeeds Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who resigned from the post of President in January 2023. Vo Van Thuong, nominated by the ruling communist party was elected with 98.38% of the votes(487 out of 488 votes). The election is a part of the reshuffle of Vietnam’s top leadership amid an antigraft campaign. Vo~ Thi? A?nh Xuân(53 years old), Vice President of Vietnam (since 2021) has served as the Acting State President since the stepping down of her predecessor Nguy?n Xuân Phúc on 17th January 2023.
 
About Vo Van Thuong:
 
  • Vo Van Thuong, from the southern province of Vinh Long, is the youngest member of the party’s Politburo, the country’s highest decision-making body.
  • Currently, he is the youngest member of the party’s Politburo, the country’s highest decision-making body.
  • He began his political career at University in the Communist youth Union.
  • He has been the youngest standing member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat since 1976.
  • He has served as the Secretary of the central province Qu?ng Ngãi Party Committee in 2011, and the Deputy Secretary of the HCM City Party Committee from 2010 to 2015.
  • He served as the standing deputy secretary of Ho Chi Minh City’s Municipal Party Committee from 2015-2020. v.He became the head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education in 2016 and has been a standing member of the Secretariat since 2021. vi.He also heads the central propaganda department of the communist party.

23rd Commonwealth Law Conference begins in Goa

Goa Governor P.S. Sreedharan Pillai opened the 23rd Commonwealth Law Conference. Dr. Pramod Sawant, the chief minister of Goa, and Union Minister for Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju also attended the five-day conference, which runs from March 5 to 9, 2023. There are 500 delegates from 52 nations present at the Conference.

 

The 23rd Commonwealth Law Conference:

During his address, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized the importance of the conference as a platform for open discussions on critical issues. He stated that the law must be comprehensible to the common man to achieve its desired result. He further highlighted the government’s commitment to good governance and the welfare of the people.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that Good Governance has many facets and characteristics. He stated that the objective or goal is to see that corruption is minimized and eliminated and that the voices of the most vulnerable in society are heard in decision-making. He further stated that the government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed in promoting good governance by emphasising not only for ease of doing business but also ease of living. The concept of Rule of law has a big role in this regard, he added.

 

 

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also spoke about how the Government was prioritizing the use of technology. Government has started eCourts phase III with an aim of making the Indian Judiciary completely paperless. On the Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business front, he informed that about 13,000 compliance burdens have been simplified while more than 1,200 processes have been digitized.
